Since we’ve already mentioned what this pillow is made of and how it was designed, we’re simply going to skip over that and go straight to usage.
Ideally, you would use this pillow to get a good night's sleep and get rid of the annoying neck pain. In addition to that, the pillow is encased in a Coolmax cover, made from smart fabric, which is supposed to help you sleep cool and dry by wicking away excess moisture and dissipating extra heat.
When you factor all of that in, we can use this pillow to:

Now, let's take a look at a brief overview of all the features that separate this pillow from other memory foam pillows.
The namesake of this memory foam pillow is the Coolmax smart cover. This high-quality polyester fabric named Coolmax is developed by the Lycra Company and is used to manufacture a variety of goods, from underwear, activewear and, in this case – the cooling washable cover for a memory foam pillow.
Now, since this is a memory foam pillow, you can’t quite expect an extra cool, breathable experience all year long, but the Coolmax cover certainly helps keep things pleasant.
While memory foam, even when infused with a cooling gel or similar technologies, will still retain some excess heat, the cover will do a decent job and regulate temperature up to a degree.
Another quite neat feature of this cooling cover is the fact that you can easily remove it and wash it in any regular washing machine.
The cleaning instructions are pretty clear. All you have to do is wash the cover at 40°C, and that's it. The cover won't shrink or become worn out after washing, so feel free to wash it as much as you need.
Additionally, the washable cover is also hypoallergenic and dust-mite resistant, so you shouldn’t experience any unpleasantries with common household allergens as long as you keep the pillow nice and clean.
The core of this pillow offers a contouring and comfortable sleeping experience, alleviating head and neck pain, and providing proper neck support.
Despite being high-density, the pillow isn’t extra firm. In fact, it offers medium support, which means your head should be able to gently and comfortable sink into the pillow, while you remain more than comfortable.
Thanks to its standard cervical design, the pillow is also orthopaedic, which means it'll help promote proper alignment and help you forget about painful, stiff mornings.
Additionally, thanks to the medium support, this pillow accommodates a request from both back and side sleepers.
Let’s start our review with the basics – the design.
The design is quite simple. As we’ve said, this is a cervical, wave shape design that follows the natural curve of the spine, so it should do a nearly brilliant job of keeping everything properly supported and aligned. As far as the looks go – we have no complaints.
The pillowcase is very high-quality. It looks good, the seams and stitching are good, the zip for the removable cover is neatly and conveniently placed on the bottom, so it won’t bother you as you sleep.
More importantly, the pillowcase is pleasant on the skin and it honestly does a pretty good job of keeping things fresh.
Finally, we can’t forget about the hypo-allergenic and anti-dust mite properties of the pillowcase, which are also present.
As far as the performance goes, the pillow feels great.
It’s soft-ish (4 out of 10 on the firmness scale), compared to some other single-block memory foam pillows. The pillow moulds around your neck and head, and offers medium support, which many will find comfortable.
Additionally, the foam is also very responsive, so switching positions during the night shouldn’t be an issue.
On the other hand, like most memory foam pillows, this one also is not suitable for stomach sleepers, and a standard pillow case probably won’t be a good fit. Thankfully, there are many pillowcases on the market that are suitable for orthopaedic cervical pillows.
Finally, you will get a year-long guarantee when you purchase the Coolmax Contour
While we can't quite call this a problem considering this pillow isn't even designed to be used by stomach sleepers, at the same time – we have to talk about this.
If you're someone that sleeps on their stomach, or simply just turns over and ends up with a face stuffed in a pillow during the night – this one won't be a good fit and it will probably cause pain and discomfort.
Now, let's take a look at an alternative.
If you like to explore your options at a similar price category – shop for the Geltex.
Silentnight Geltex pillow combines hollowfibre with gel-infused, open-cell foam for both improved air flow and comfort.
The Geltex core provides proper support and gives a bit of loft to the pillow while the hollowfibre fillings encasing it provide sumptuous comfort while also keeping things cool.
One of the major problems with memory foam pillows is that they get hot and bothersome. This one, on the other hand, does not.
Sure, it’s not the most breathable pillow on the market, but as far as the memory foam pillows go, at least the ones made from a single block of memory foam – this one is as chill as they get.
Testing the pillow is quite straightforward, but then again – it’s not easy. You have to put away the subjective and focus on the objective. That is why we have a standardized procedure when it comes to testing and reviewing pillows.
Every test begins with an order, and in this case, you will have to pay a small delivery fee (unless you up the quantity at the checkout), even if you are ordering from the UK mainland. For orders out of the UK, different conditions apply. For more details on this, feel free to check the seller page.
First, we start by visually inspecting the packaging and the pillow itself. We check for build quality and craftsmanship, and we keep an eye out for lousy stitching, seams or possibly even some nicks and tears.
Then, each of our team members gets to spend a few days with the pillow. We test them in various conditions, and we try our best to stay objective. We test their durability, breathability, responsiveness, sinkage, comfort, support and so on.
Once we do all that, we all come together to discuss our findings, compare them, and based on them – we deliver you this objective review.
Unfortunately, we wouldn't call either polyester or memory foam a sustainable or eco-friendly material.
Polyester is made from PET, the most common type of plastic in the world, so no – it's not the most sustainable and green fabric ever made.
As for memory foam, there are some benefits to it.
Over the last few years, we've seen a massive surge of non-treated foams, which is a major plus in the sustainability department, as foams void of toxic chemicals have little to no detrimental effect on the environment.
Also, foam can be reused and repurposed. However, it can be broken down to its original polymers.
But, even with that in mind, Memory Foam Warehouse does not offer an old mattress (or old pillow) collection, so unless you are the one to take this thing over to a recycling plant – we don't see how this thing would end up reused.
In summation, there's room for improvement.
All in all, we can't say we're not pleased with this pillow. In fact, we're more than satisfied.
It's rare to see a memory foam pillow that does this well of a job all around – especially at this price point.
We love the fact that the manufacturer's claims were pretty much spot on, and we have to say that at this price point, there's little to no chance you'll find a cervical pillow that offers the same thing.
Yes. This pillow is pretty much ideal for side sleepers due to its excellent neck support.
Absolutely. Back sleepers should use the Coolmax Contour memory foam pillow.
Yes. This pillow will keep you supported all night long, resulting in less pain.
The Coolmax pillowcase is removable and machine-washable at 40°C. Just don’t tumble dry or iron it afterwards.
