Panda originally launched the Bamboo Memory Foam Pillow, which soon became a bestseller. It’s a firm favourite with their customers, they’ve sold hundreds of thousands of them to date. More recently, Panda used customer feedback to introduce the Hybrid pillow, a new design with improved technology and breathability.
Heat retention can be experienced with many other memory foam pillows because breathability is not one of their top priorities. So, if you find yourself getting too hot at night, you need to be on the lookout for a breathable pillow.
We can’t mention breathability without mentioning bamboo. After all, it is in the name. The removable bamboo cover on both Panda pillows plays an essential role in counteracting the heat retention from memory foam. Bamboo has cooling properties and allows for airflow. Despite the completely different designs, I can feel how cool they both are on my cheek. Of course, I can still cosy up to the pillow, but it is always good to know that I won’t overheat.
Panda has taken breathability up a level with the Hybrid Pillow design. I noticed the addition of mesh fabric panelling the whole way around the cover. This enhances and optimises breathability as it makes airflow even easier.
Panda took the technology to the next level with the next-generation, Hybrid Bamboo pillow. From the Panda memory foam pillow to the hybrid pillow, CharcoCell Foam™ was introduced. It’s basically foam infused with charcoal. The charcoal combats heat retention, it’s moisture-wicking and it’s odour-resistant. Everything you could want if you are a hot sleeper – especially those who find it hot around your face from a head-hugging pillow!
The CharcoCell Foam™ works with their O2 Micro-Pods™ as part of Panda’s “unique blend of science and nature.” When talking to Panda they said, “O2 Micro-Pods™ direct airflow to keep that fresh side of the pillow feeling all night long.” In plain English, they are a bunch of breathable air holes beneath the Panda bamboo pillow cover to keep air circulating.
The memory foam pillow was designed smaller than a standard pillow because of their 3rd generation foam. This means you can't use a standard pillowcase, but it does mean you get a lot of support. You could still use a standard pillowcase, but it’ll be a bit loose. From the first design to the Hybrid, Panda has adapted the pillow size thanks to improved technology and nature. So, you can now fit standard pillowcases (like the Panda 100% bamboo pillowcase) snugly.
If I were a front or back sleeper, I would want to have the memory foam pillow for continuous support as it is firmer than the hybrid pillow. No matter your position the pillow will return to shape and mould to a new position, while always being a supportive pillow. The memory foam pillow is great for all sleepers, but I would definitely recommend it more for front sleepers and back sleepers. It has a lower loft which works better to keep your spine aligned and is more comfortable in those sleep positions.
A supportive memory foam to last the 10-year guarantee.
As a combination sleeper, I’d personally pick the Hybrid pillow. I would recommend it to anyone else who is a combination sleeper or side sleeper. The depth and loft are higher than the memory foam pillow, so I found it fit comfortably between the mattress and my head to give me the support I need. I love the way the quilted cover of the soft pillow feels, too. It is also easier to remove than the memory foam pillow cover thanks to the zip running along two sides.
An actual pillow of dreams.
Rather than chucking away your pillow at your local household waste site (…although, why would you?), you can return any products that you are finished using back to Panda and they will do that for you.
So, if you have been wondering how they get around memory foam pillows not being recyclable – this is how. It is their closed-loop system so it doesn’t add to landfill waste where they can’t take each element apart to be recycled – as they do with plastic bottles, electronics, and wood for example. Instead, Panda can control each element and be efficient with how each part is recycled responsibly. It is a great sustainable idea, that is included in their Circle of Life Programme.
If you know someone who is relocating or you just fancy treating yourself to a comfortable night’s sleep – then you have two incredible options. The hardest part is knowing what exactly you are looking for and matching that to one of the two pillows. The memory foam pillow could make a lovely gift for a family member heading off to uni soon. I’ll also keep it in mind as a housewarming gift. However, the hybrid bamboo pillow is the one I would treat myself to. The heart wants what it wants (and we are sure it wants a Panda pillow)!
