The Hypnia Supreme Memory Mattress is an all-foam mattress and the only Hypnia memory foam mattress. It's harder to directly compare this one to the other Hypnia mattresses as they are hybrid mattresses. However, we have done a broader comparison within our product overview.

Advantages

Who is the product for?

Pure memory foam mattresses are usually quite firm mattress choices, but the Hypnia Supreme Memory Mattress one seems to be a little softer. You'll get a comfortable sleep with this product, yet also have the zoned support from the base. The memory foam definitely contours to your body which is most suited for side sleepers to keep their spine aligned, but you may sink into the top layer a little too much if you’re a front or back sleeper. This can make your sleeping position a bit uncomfortable.

What do we use this product for?

Thanks to the graphite particles, your body can keep at an ideal temperature which hot sleepers will be pleased with. On top of that, you can experience breathability and have your body aligned throughout the night at a reasonable price. To summarise it's for:

Of course, we know and can see from the name of this product that it is a memory foam mattress but what features make it different? We've picked out a few of the layers that we feel everyone needs to know the details of. The features we have chosen are the ones that change your sleep experience and encourage a good night's sleep.

Overview of the Hypnia Supreme Memory Mattress

I was surprised when I first tried out this mattress as it initially seemed quite bouncy for a foam mattress… and there are definitely no pocket springs in this one. However, this did mean it was quick to return to its original shape – unlike their Essential Hybrid Mattress. Even though there is a bounce to it, it still has good motion isolation so you won’t be woken up by a fidgety partner.

It’s worth noting that the Supreme Memory Mattress has okay edge support but not the best, so we would suggest taking a look at their Supreme Hybrid Mattress if that’s a deciding factor for you.

What we like about the Hypnia Supreme Memory Mattress

Let's break it down to a few points that we absolutely love about this product. These are the things that make us want to buy it so we can sleep on it every night for many years to come. Here they are:

• The comfort of this mattress is incredible, although it's said to be medium firm like their other two mattresses. If you're someone who prioritises a comfortable mattress then this will tick this box. The different types of memory foam work well together for this.
• The majority of people are side sleepers, so it's good news for all of you. This mattress is suited to those who sleep on their side more than anyone else due to the support it gives your shoulders and hips. Your body can stay aligned in this sleeping position to reduce the chance of waking up with aches.

• There's little to no motion transfer from this mattress so those sharing a bed won't need to worry about their partner waking them up with their movement. Light sleepers can sleep soundly without worrying about the person fidgeting next to them.

What we didn't like about the Hypnia Supreme Memory Mattress

Now, for the things that are not too good about the product that might make you reconsider buying the mattress. It all comes down to personal preference but here are a few things that could sway your decision if you have a certain sleep style.

• The cover has a crisp feel to it and it does rustle slightly. This isn't anything too major but if you are a light sleeper then you might find it irritating. Popping a fitted sheet or mattress protector over the top can help to reduce this a little.
• Off-gassing from this product is very noticeable when you unpack it. It's so common in mattresses and particularly memory foam. However, this isn't something that should put you off buying if everything else suits your sleep style. It'll just be a case of ventilating the room as much as you can to lessen the smell.
• We mentioned there being no motion transfer, but there is a lack of edge support which can make sharing a bed trickier for some. If your partner likes to take up most of the space and you find yourself shifting to the side of the bed then you might need to find another mattress with better edge support.

Delivery – Hypnia provides fast, friendly and free delivery. The delivery driver was very helpful; as soon as the mattress arrived, the driver offered to take it to the room where I wanted it so I didn’t have to do as much lifting. The whole experience was very efficient.

Payment – You can easily pay with the standard methods, including PayPal. If you're looking for a way to split the payment into instalments, then you can opt for the choice of DivideBuy or Klarna.

Online customer service – Most of the time their customer service is quick but you could be left waiting for a few minutes. If you do find yourself in this situation, don’t worry! They have a fun game for you to play on their online chat so while you’re waiting for a response, you’ll have something to keep you amused.

There's another mattress in the Hypnia Supreme range and it's a hybrid alternative to the memory foam one. So, if you're looking for an equal balance of comfort and support then you might want to take a look. The Memory Mattress can be a little soft for some sleepers so it can be worth looking at the hybrid choices instead. There is their Essential Hybrid Mattress for a cheaper option, but the Supreme Mattress is the one at the top of their range.

We have picked this mattress as our alternative to the Hypnia Supreme Memory Mattress as they are of the same quality but with different designs. It gives you the option of two mattresses that have features on one and not the other, so you can find the right one for you. However, both of them are durable and practical for their purpose.

The noticeable difference between the mattresses is this mattress includes an integrated topper. This is the layer where the comfort comes from and it's made of memory foam like the whole of the Supreme Memory Mattress.

What makes this product better than some other similar ones?

The Hypnia Supreme Memory Mattress is a better choice than the other Hypnia mattresses due to the smaller details. To start with, this one has handles on it so it can be manoeuvred with ease – unlike their essential one that has none. In comparison to the Supreme Hybrid Mattress, this one has a removable cover which is super practical and low maintenance which is definitely something we look for.

For lightweight sleepers, this is a better pick because it favours comfort over support so it won't be a firm mattress to lie on. That's not to say there is no support in this one, as there certainly is, but comfort is the main achievement.

Is the Hypnia Supreme Memory Mattress eco-friendly or sustainable?

The mattress cover uses polyester which is a bonus for the durability and that's reflected in their warranty, but the impact on the environment is not so good. Of course, the rest of the mattress is made with memory foam and it's not the worst material to use for the layers but there are better materials out there.

All mattresses are manufactured with renewable energy and the company works with recycling operators to make sure every returned mattress goes to a good home. The mattress itself may not be most eco-friendly but you will find a section of refurbished mattresses that are returned mattresses that have been fully restored.

Buying a new mattress is a big commitment but with Hypnia’s 200-night trial period, you can easily return the mattress. There is also a 15-year warranty so you can feel at ease knowing the mattress is designed to last.

How did we test the product? 

We can give you our opinion on all the products we test out, however, it's always better to understand how we actually trial them to get to our final overview. On a broader level, here are a few tests that we follow with every product we assess.

Overall impressions of the product after the testing

This Hypnia mattress overview applies to every size available, whether that's a double mattress or a single mattress – you will get the same experience. When we received the cooling mattress, it came vacuum-packed in a box. So, it just needs to be taken out, the package removed and left to expand.

Once expanded, we could take a look at the smaller details. The mattress has a zip all the way around the edge so I found the cover easy enough to remove for washing. It’s more practical than the design on their Essential Mattress. The Essential Mattress also lacked handles and made moving the mattress difficult, but this one has two horizontal handles on the long sides. One downside to them is that they are underneath the mattress and that can make it tricky to hold onto – so you might want to take a look at the Hypnia Supreme Hybrid Mattress for better design features. Of course, this is only if it's important to your mattress choice but you won't need to regularly turn it – so once it's on the bed frame, you won't have to worry about moving it around again.

Being made from just memory foam does mean off-gassing is expected. So, bear this in mind when it comes to unboxing the mattress. You’ll just need to leave it to be aired out for a few hours and the smell will dissipate.

A definite upgrade from the Essential Hybrid Mattress but not quite on the same level as their Supreme Hybrid Mattress. You should consider this mattress if you’re a side sleeper or combination sleeper.
