First of all, this is a luxury weighted blanket, and that's just from looking at the price tag. So, based on that alone, Baloo weighted blanket isn't for everyone. However, despite being a bit on the expensive side, Baloo Soft is one of the most popular blankets on the Amazon UK, so we guess people do enjoy it?
Either way, this lead-free, glass microbeads-filled blanket encased in a premium cotton cover does what it needs to do. It provides deeper sleep to sleepers that need it the most. And the people who need weighted blankets the most are people struggling with insomnia, anxiety, stress, hormones, depression, ADHD, autism, and so on.
Finally, seeing how this blanket is available in 5.4, 6.8, 9, and 11.3 kg versions, as well as several different sizes (both UK and US), we really can't see why anyone wouldn't want to try this one out.
Weighted blankets are known for calming down the nerves, and helping dull down the sensory reception, which then ultimately leads to deep rest and a restful, good night's sleep.
Weighted blankets such as this one calm our nerves by simulating the comforting feeling of a hug, encouraging the production of serotonin, and calming the nervous system – similar to compression or Deep Pressure Touch (DPT) therapy.
With all that in mind, we feel like it's safe to say we can use Baloo weighted blankets:
Unlike other weighted blankets, Baloo weighted blankets come in different sizes, types and weight options, making them suitable for most bed sizes.
Since this is a product for both UK and US markets, you'll notice that this one comes in both traditional comforter and standard blanket sizes, therefore it is appropriate for the UK Single bed, King-size bed, as well as the US full queen.
This 108 x 183 cm weighted throw is a neat little addition for when you're lounging in front of the TV, and just need something to comfortably snuggle under. At only 5.4 kg, this weighted throw is not quite suitable for most adult sleepers (nor kids or babies), but what you might want to use this one as, is a training weighted blanket. Some people advocate that it is best to ease into using a weighted blanket with a lighter weight, so this weighted throw might just come in handy.
A 9 kg (UK Double) version of Baloo weighted blanket would be a semi-heavy weighted blanket – the one suitable for a good number of men, but not quite a lot of women. Just like the rest of Baloo weighted blanket family, this one is also filled with glass microbeads and encased in a pure cotton outer cover, and apart from weight – it is in no other way different from the one that we're reviewing.
This one, just like the 6.8kg version we're reviewing, is available as a King size (229 x 229 cm) weighted comforter.
At 11.3 kg, this might seem like a weighted blanket for the 110+ kg body weight sleepers. However, it isn't. This is a Super king-sized weighted blanket (203 x 211 cm), so it is mainly tailored towards couples, rather than one person. Since the entire weight of the blanket is spread across a large surface and two people, this would make this one “lighter” than the 9 kg version.
This one is also available as a Super King size (234 x 274 cm) weighted comforter.
Now, let's take a look at what makes this quilted weighted blanket special, and different from other, similar weighted blankets.
While we still believe you should keep your Baloo weighted blanket in a duvet cover, you'll be pleased to know that the blanket itself comes with a luxurious, premium quality 100% cotton cover.
Cotton is also naturally hypoallergenic, which is a plus for allergy sufferers. Additionally, cotton is breathable, but also thermo-regulating and moisture-wicking, which makes this cover suitable for both hotter and cooler months.
Furthermore, the cover also comes equipped with small loops for securely attaching the blanket to the duvet cover.
The tight, quilted pattern holds the weighted filling snugly in place so you never have to worry about the weight bunching or clumping. The glass microbead fill is evenly distributed across the entire body of this heavy blanket, and thanks to the quilted pockets – it'll stay the same for a very long time.
Additionally, the glass microbead fill is also entirely toxin and chemical-free, lead-free, as well as completely silent and it doesn't trap heat. So, if you tend to move around because you sleep hot – the gentle hug of glass microbeads should keep you comfortably in one place, as well as dry and relatively cool. This also makes this weighted blanket cool enough for year round use.
The best weighted blankets usually come with a pure cotton cover, which is also the case with Baloo weighted blanket. Now, Baloo living claims their weighted blanket is the only quilted weighted blanket made with all-natural 100% pure cotton, with zero polyester or synthetic liners. Apparently, this also makes their weighted blanket the only quilted weighted blanket perfect for hot sleepers.
Now, while we're not so sure about either of those claims, what we are sure of is that this one is truly a luxury, premium cover that will help you stay cool during a better part of the year, and will also feel silky smooth and soft.
To promote relaxation, calmness, comfort, and deep rest and sleep, Baloo weighted blanket comes in a soft white colour, appropriately called White Pebble. Seeing how white isn't particularly easy to maintain, it is a good thing that all of Baloo weighted blankets are machine-washable.
However, if you visit Baloo living website, you'll see that the weighted blanket is also available in Clay, Thistle, and Silver Sage colour.
Baloo weighted blanket is washing machine-friendly. That is, if you have a washing machine that is large enough to fit one of these bad boys. If you do, all it takes to wash this weighted blanket is some cold water, up to 30°C and a slow, gentle cycle.
The weighted blanket is also tumble drier-friendly, as long as you keep it at a low heat setting. If you don't know a tumble drier, you'll be pleased to know that the blanket will dry surprisingly quickly if you simply leave it out to air dry.
Considering that Baloo weighted blanket is available in plenty of weight options, ranging from 5.4 to 11.3 kg, we are pretty sure that you will be able to find it comfy no matter your body weight.
Overall, this is an excellent product. Would we dare say that this is one of the best weighted blankets in the UK? We would. Considering a price tag, we think you could find a better deal, but still – this is a great product all things considered.
With that being said, we can't really see anyone regretting buying this product.
The cover is brilliant, and the quilted pattern holds the weighted filling snugly in place without any issues. You could toss and turn all you want – the glass microbead fill would remain in perfect shape, and the small loops would keep the blanket inside of a duvet cover.
Now, you won't be able to avoid overheating during the summer, but compared to other weighted blankets, this one does a great good of keeping your bed cool enough due to 100% cotton cover, amongst other things.
Finally, we can't forget to double down on the fact that the weighted filling inside of this one is entirely chemical-free and hypoallergenic, so if you're struggling with allergies – this one might just be a good fit.
On the other hand, here's one thing we don't like about this weighted blanket – there's no regular trial period or warranty. Baloo living should probably fix that considering the price tag on this blanket.
As we've previously stated, this one might just be the best weighted blanket we've ever tested.
But, why is that? Well, aside from not being covered by a warranty and a regular trial period, Baloo weighted blanket does not have any major disadvantages. It's excellent across the board.
It's durable, long-lasting, comfortable, available in a plethora of versions, and much more. All in all – certainly one of the best blankets we've ever had the pleasure of reviewing.
When you have to review a sleep product such as a weighted blanket, you have to keep several factors in mind. However, you can't just assume that a product would be good at something it's supposed to be good at if you have no way of testing it.
Fortunately for us, no one in our team suffers from anxiety or any related issue weighted blankets are good for. Therefore, we had to focus on what we do know, and that's the quality and performance of the product.
We began our tests with a visual inspection, to determine the quality of seams, quilts and stitching. Then, we've moved on to hands-on testing where we collectively tested the blanket's durability, comfort, warmth and breathability, and the overall feel. Naturally, we've weighed the blanket, too – just to be sure.
