I love the overall aesthetic of this sofa bed – it's so stylish, elegant and yet so simple. The gorgeous design is perfect for matching with pretty much all house styles so there's no need for buying a product that's going to ruin the feel of your room. We received the light grey colourway with classic armrests and had the chance to try out both wooden feet and metal feet. Each option gives the sofa bed a different look. So, it all comes down to personal preference of how you see the sofa bed fitting into your home.
From a practicality side, I found the extra design detail of the handle is super useful for folding and unfolding to make the conversion from a sofa to a bed simpler. It's a subtle design that can be tucked out of the way and doesn't distract from the sleek style. It even comes with a metal unfolding aid that sits on the sofa. So there's no need to worry about getting it dirty when putting your foot in place to pull the bed out.
The aspect of the design we appreciate the most is how much you can customise it. Most sofa beds come in a couple of variations, typically light or dark fabric, so it can be hard to make it suit the rest of your furniture. However, the Bruno Sofa Bed comes with so many other options. As we previously mentioned, there are foot variants – one being the metal finish that gives a contemporary look and the other being wooden feet for a natural, traditional feel.
Next, you can choose between classic, cube and slim armrests. With the cube and slim styles, you won't need any foot attachments which gives a more sleek design. This is followed by the selection of colour choices. Depending on the aesthetic you want to achieve, there are a handful of colours that work well in different rooms. We found the light grey fabric to be beautiful and paired it with the wooden feet for a classic finish. But every colour is timeless and can last for years to come without getting bored of it.
Assembling a product like this sofa bed can make or break the whole experience. Thankfully, putting the Bruno Sofa Bed together was pretty straightforward. It came with an instruction manual that was simple to follow.
The delivery team dropped the packages into our room of choice (free of charge) and it came in three parts. There was the main seating that came assembled, a box with the armrests and a smaller box for the feet and tools (screws, washers and Allen key). Building the sofa bed ideally needs two people for the job. This is for moving the sofa to where you want it situated and lifting it to put set-up aids underneath.
I found both feet variants to be extremely easy to attach – especially the wooden option that just screws into the base of the armrests within seconds. I would say the trickiest part is lining up the holes. The sofa must be raised enough with the card blocks and in the exact place. If they're not positioned correctly then the holes won't match up. This was an issue to begin with but as soon as the set-up aids were adjusted, the assembling went smoothly. The actual process of attaching the armrest is effortless – just a screw, a washer and tightening with the Allen key.
Comfy as a sofa and comfy as a bed, means a successful sofa bed in my opinion. That's exactly what you get from Bruno Interior. I initially sat down on the sofa and found that the back cushions were super cosy to rest on and the firmness of the seat was just right. It definitely seems like it will last you a while with less chance of it sinking too soon and becoming uncomfortable. Each back cushion can be hidden neatly underneath the bed and the back folds down to keep them covered – another great design feature.
The mattress of the bed is built in as part of the sofa to make for a simpler and more practical design if you need to quickly set up the bed. Within a minute you can have the bed ready to be slept on. This also means you know you'll get the same comfort from the bed as you do the sofa so it's an instant win.
I did find the mattress to be quite firm but, again, this can help with longevity and it's still comfortable enough for a temporary bed. It's not a product that you'll be spending all the time sleeping on as it's dual-purpose. Before buying a sofa bed, it's expected that you're going in knowing that it's not for long-term use.
Although I would say it's firm, there is a bounce to it – thanks to the box spring technology made up of nearly 700 pocket springs. Luckily, there's no motion transfer so couples sharing the sofa bed won't risk being woken up by a fidgety partner.
The Bruno Sofa Bed feels exceptionally sturdy and of good quality. This is due to the solid wood frame that holds it all together. It's sure to stand the test of time and it's always reassuring to know that it has a 10-year guarantee. You can be confident that it will last for many years to come.
The bed itself is split into three sections that fold up to make the sofa. Each section supports a different part of your body and works with your sleeping position for a restful night's sleep. Of course, it doesn't have all the fancy layers of a mattress to tailor to your needs but it does the job.
Every sleeping position can find themselves having a good sleep on this Bruno Interior Sofa Bed. They are ideal for back and front sleepers due to their firmness. You won't end up sinking in the wrong places and will feel support to keep your spine aligned. One section will help your shoulders, another will help your hips and the last one will help your knees.
Even though it's fairly firm, those who are side sleepers can still feel relaxed enough to fall asleep. However, you won't properly sink into your position so you might wake up with slight aches and pain with continuous use.
All-in-all, it's a good-sized sofa with plenty of space for two people to sit and could probably seat three. It will look lovely in any home with the customisations available.
Remember if you decide it's not what you were looking for during your sleep trial then Bruno Interior can offer you a full refund. I can confirm that I love it and want everyone to have one in their spare bedroom for when I come to visit.
