Whether you need a throw to make your furniture look nicer and make it even more comfortable, or you need a warm, cosy blanket while watching your favourite movie or you maybe want to wear a wrap, Scooms Alpaca wool blanket is a great choice for you.
We use Scooms Alpaca wool blanket primarily because of the fantastic, natural characteristics of Alpaca wool. We use this Alpaca throw because it is warm, soft, cosy, breathable and hypoallergenic.
As, of course, Alpaca wool is the main part of Scooms Alpaca wool blanket, it is the primary feature you should know about this product. We will talk in this part of the review about some other important features for all those who want to buy this blanket.
Alpaca wool has been used for thousands of years in parts of South America where Alpaca are native. There, only royalty used products made from this high-quality natural material, and they even called it ‘the fibre of the Gods’.
Scooms uses superfine-graded Alpaca wool (19-22.9 microns) for Alpaca wool blankets. This superfine Alpaca wool is soft, warm, lightweight and durable. Since fibres are hollow, Alpaca wool is highly breathable.
It is also non-flammable, moisture-wicking and naturally water-repellant.
It has a significantly lower water retention rate compared to sheep's wool.
It is important to note that this is a cruelty-free product because they are gently shorn by hand once a year and at the time of the year when it is warmest, so they do not need excessive wool. This way, they are much more comfortable without wool that will grow again until winter.
We have already said that you cannot find many Alpaca wool products in the United Kingdom market, and even fewer of them are made in the UK. This blanket is woven in Yorkshire, UK, at one of the world's top woollen mills meaning you can trust and support the domestic sleep industry while also being confident in the quality.
Many customers avoid buying a product made from natural materials, like a down pillow, because they have had one or more allergic reactions to similar materials in the past.
Scooms Alpaca wool blanket is safe for anyone to use, even if they have asthma or other allergies. This product is also biodegradable and eco-friendly because it does not contain any harmful toxins or chemicals.
Did you know that lanolin is the grease found in sheep's wool? Well, now you do!
Lanolin is actually the main allergen in sheep's wool, and since this blanket is lanolin-free – it's hypoallergenic.
Additionally, a lambswool blanket can sometimes have an unpleasant smell because of the lanolin. Alpaca wool is lanolin-free, so not only is it hypoallergenic and odourless, but it also doesn't require as much care.
Lanolin retains dirt, so you will have to wash the alpaca wool product much less often than the sheep wool blanket.
While we wouldn't call this one a “problem”, we are kind of disappointed by the lack of available sizes.
Now, we know this is a throw and a blanket and a wrap all rolled into one, but if you like to snuggle with your loved ones under a blanket, you might find the 130 x 200 cm size to be a bit too small.
A single person can still use it as a regular blanket, but it might be a bit too slim for a couple that likes to cuddle.
Scooms Alpaca wool blanket is a fantastic product, but it is not a product that will be among the best-selling blankets on the market due to the price and the fact that not everyone needs this type of blanket.
On the other hand, it will have many customers, because Alpaca wool is worth every penny. If you are not among those who will buy it, check out the best alternative we singled out for you.
Scooms Alpaca wool blanket is a heavier blanket compared to this one but it can be replaced by this one. You won't get disappointed by the quality & overall feel once you lay down in bed and cover yourself with it.

Compared to cashmere or even merino lambswool fibres, Alpaca wools are much finer and less “prickly”, making for a more luxurious and softer feel.
Additionally, Alpaca wool is one of the strongest natural fibres in the world, meaning that your blanket will last for years to come with the proper care. Even when compared to merino wool – which we've tested firt-hand in our Scooms Merino Wool blanket review – it is still softer and stronger at the same time.
What's more, blankets woven from Alpaca wool fibres are warmer than merino wool blankets, making them perfect for those cold winter nights. In addition, these retain less water as well.
So, what makes this product better than all the other ones? Alpaca wool.
We like to keep things simple when it comes to testing. However, simple doesn't mean bad. It just means tried and tested, without too many gimmicks. We rely on everything; from test results and impressions all the way to customer reviews!
Our testing process goes as follows:
Here's how we've tested the longevity and durability of this Alpaca throw and blanket:
Scooms Alpaca wool blanket is made of Alpaca wool, which is a sustainable material. Alpacas are not harmed in the making of this blanket and the environment is not harmed, either.
In addition to all that, treating Alpaca wool fibres doesn't require any harsh chemicals (unlike merino wool), making the whole process more sustainable.
And, to top things off, the blanket comes in plastic-free, recyclable packaging.
Great job Scooms!
What could we say that we haven't said already? Scooms Alpaca wool blanket is a fantastic product that will keep you warm and toasty all winter long. It's unbelievably cuddly and super soft, it's made of premium and sustainable materials, it's eco-friendly and it will last you for years to come.
The only thing that might hold some people back is the price, but then again, it's Alpaca wool.
9.5 out of 10 as far as we're concerned!
Scooms Alpaca wool blanket is available in one size – 130 x 200 cm (w x l) and weighs 800 g.
It is delivered in plastic-free, recyclable packaging which is to be expected when you buy this eco-friendly product.
Although it might be logical that this Alpaca blanket does not suit hot sleepers, Alpaca wool is naturally breathable and has great temperature regulation, so the blanket is suitable for hot sleepers, too.
Differences are many, but the most important one is that Alpaca wool is silky soft and less “prickly” than Cashmere wool.
Scooms Alpaca wool blanket is only suitable for dry cleaning.
